
In Kolhapur, structural engineer Chetan Patil, who was named in the FIR related to the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Malvan, surrendered to the Kolhapur police at 12:30 am on Friday. Patil, a resident of Shivaji Peth in Kolhapur city who had been staying in Chikodi, Belagavi district in Karnataka, approached the police through a friend to express his intention to surrender. Superintendent Mahendra Pandit confirmed that police teams had been searching for him and he was handed over to a Malvan police team upon surrender. After a medical examination, Patil was taken to Malvan where he was arrested early the following morning. He and sculptor Jaydip Apte faced charges under various sections of the law. Inspector Ashok Kolhe mentioned that the accused had not been presented in court yet, but the arrest procedure had been completed. Efforts were underway to locate the absconding sculptor involved in the case. Patil works as a professor at a private engineering college and was responsible for the project design as a structural engineer.
